COURSES IN BRIEF

IMPROVISER'S ORCHESTRA

The Improviser's Orchestra is committed to free and conducted improvisation. Musicians from all backgrounds including classical, jazz, experimental, pop, folk and blues, as well as performance artists and musicians playing ethnic instruments are welcome. Every person has the capacity to improvise, and through the use of various musical approaches, participants develop new skills and explore their creativity though improvising.

DJEMBÉ

The various tones and timbres of the djembé will be learned. Subsequently participants will learn how to play certain rhythms in a disciplined way, within drum ensembles, and also how to take solos, departing from the group dynamic, expressing own musical ideas. For more advanced players less conventional rhythmic patterns will be explored.

LIEDER-COACHING for pianists and singers

Singers should bring Lieder in progress from one of the following composers: Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Hugo Wolf, Wagner, Strauss, Mahler, Pfitzner, Schoenberg, Berg, Webern.

SONG ACCOMPANIMENT

Comping is a term used in jazz music to describe the chords, rhythms, and counter melodies that keyboard players or guitar players use to support a jazz musician's improvised solo or melody lines. This is particularly important when accompanying jazz singers. Interpretation of chord symbols in their great variety, various styles of playing and „voicings“ will be taught.
